Is Your Living Room As Comfortable As You Think? 6 Questions You Should Ask Yourself

You think your living room is comfortable. After all, it’s the place where you, your family, and your guests get together. You talk, and you entertain. It should be comfortable. It is the place where everyone seems to be enjoying one another’s company. But, you should ask yourself these (6) questions to make sure your living room is as comfortable as you think.

#1: Can you and your guests talk easily and comfortably?

Because a living room is typically a gathering room, you want to make certain that your furniture is arranged to facilitate conversation easily. Inward facing seating arrangements that can seat 4 to 6 people are most conducive to conversation.

#2: Is there sufficient leg room and space to move around easily?

You want everyone to have enough space to sit comfortably and move around easily. Distances of 4 to 10 feet are most comfortable. If you follow this general rule, you and your guests should have plenty of space to move around comfortably.

#3: Are tables convenient and easy to reach?

You need to have convenient surface spaces available within easy reach. Arrange your sofa and chairs around a coffee table and have side tables nearby.

Tables are handy surface spaces, especially when you’re entertaining guests and serving beverages and snacks.

#4: Do you have sufficient lighting?

Make sure you have sufficient lighting for reading and other activities. You can supplement the natural light in a room with overhead lighting and table lamps. For convenience, add dimmer switches so you can control the settings for various times of day.

#5: Is your wall art easy to view?

Hang your artwork where it is easy to view, near eye-level.  When paintings, prints, and other works of art are hung too high, they appear to float upward and be unrelated to anything else in the room.

Artwork should be easy to view and add context to a room. Add context by hanging your artwork near furniture, or create groupings of art and other objects in your living room.

#6:  Can your room be described as visually appealing?

A comfortable living room is a room that is both functional and visually appealing. Your decor should reflect the atmosphere you’re looking to create. Displaying accessories that are consistent with the overall theme adds to the aesthetic appeal of the room.

And, don’t forget to add touches of your personality and style. Most often, it’s the personal touches that can make everyone feel cozy and comfortable.
